Baie Lazare

I've been a bit busy the past few weeks prepping for my first fund raising event happening next week and haven't left base much, but I did manage to take a little trip to a new beach down south last weekend with two of my workmates. One of the many great things about living here is the bus system. I love the local buses, they fly around the crazy winding roads, most of which run right along the beaches so the scenery is quite nice and the local crowd on the bus is always interesting.  Five rupees, approximately 50 cents, will get you almost anywhere on the island so long as you get on the right bus. You can just hop on a bus and cruise around until you see a beach you like, get off and go explore, which is what we did. Sometimes I forget that I live in a gorgeous tropical holiday destination and need to be reminded that the Seychelles is in fact, the most spectacular place on the planet (I know, I am a bit biased). But I'll just let the pictures of the beach at Baie Lazare speak for themselves.

One Month In

Dang, is it February already? Apologies for being a bit MIA on this blog, the past few weeks have been quite busy here since the volunteers arrived on Jan 12. Between training them up on all the duties and taking them diving and doing quite a bit of training myself, there hasn’t been too much time for anything other than work! Too much of this work is not a bad thing, since it involves diving, running around on the beach with kids, diving, cooking, learning how to drive a boat, and diving some more.  No complaints here!  Part of my job also involves setting up charity fund raisers for our Charitable Trust – the President’s Village children’s home just up the road from base.  Our first one is coming up on Feb 28th – you can get more information (and donate if you are feeling generous) here:   http://www.justgiving.com/capTcharitychallenge
We snorkel with the kids from the President's Village once a week, which is always fun and entertaining. I'll write a more thorough post soon, but in the meantime here are some photos from the place I now call home and my “neighborhood” – beaches and places near base.
